I've got the money, that's not the issue, the issue is the ethical ambiguity of changing product terms after charging me, which is something Intuit is poorly known for.Īlso 100% prices go back up to $25 on May 1.First things first – independent contractor taxes are different than when you’re a W-2 employee. With independent contractor work (sometimes called gig work or self-employment), our clients will ask “ why was no federal income tax taken out of my paycheck?” If self-employed is free for the year, I will continue to use it, because I have already payed for it for the year. They could do this at any moment, and I won't let it happen again. This was really all spurred by my inability to access account for the month of January due to the issue they had with their database, and they requesting for 2 weeks that I PAY them for a product I had already bought just to access my records for tax season. This change while not telling us they were making this change is mismanagement, and I will not continue doing business with Intuit, just doesn't sit well with me. Both ways are the same money, around $100-140 a year for a self-employed tax fee + a year of self employed, but the problem is I've already payed this $100, and they're asking for another $140. The problem is that they are account for the self-employed fee at end of year instead of beginning previously they have had allowed you to do this at the beginning of the year. They already took my $100+ for self employed taxes for the year. For taxes I will move to Dave Ramsey smart tax. Mileage tracking not sure yet, but may just estimate at the end of the year. Even if I pay invoice Ninja monthly I will pay them due to this very poor mismanagement of the self-employed product this year. Invoice Ninja is what I will switch to for expenses & invoice. I highly recommend people look elsewhere for these services, as the change in subscription style, and the error in early January causing everyone to lose access to their accounts if they didn't pay, is absolute proof of mismanagement and we should run far away. Additionally, prices could go up to $400 a year for year 4, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. I never received a free year of self-employed, or the free turbo tax year, due to the change in contract in year 3. Year 4: 0 payed in taxes, but $140 (or more) to continue using software.īecause the terms of the contract/subscription have changed, I will be charged double in year 3. Year 3: $140 payed in January for taxes, self-employed cost $140 for 1 year + free filing in year 4 Year 2: $140 payed in January for taxes, self-employed continues through year 2 Year 1: $140 payed in January for taxes, free self-employed for one year ($140 promotion) Say that I am charged $140 for self employed tax rate each year + a year of self employed software, which is still currently the going promotion. Here is why the change makes no sense, mathematically. I will personally be switching my tax software & my invoicing software and cut ties with Intuit, overall very bad management. They are charging you twice this year, once for self-employed and then for the tax bill you did earlier this year. Just wondering if this is something that isn't free before I contact quickbooks.ĮDIT: This has been confirmed to be the case by multiple people. There is no way in hell I am paying them $240 a year + cost to file taxes, which has gone up year over year, made worth it due to having the free self-employed program throughout the year. If it's not, I will be switching both my tax prep software & my invoicing software. I received a message saying my free trial would end in April, wondering if this is no longer included with the Turbo Tax fees that are associated with Self-employed.
